Snowmobiling in Truckee Tips (Coldstream Adventures Review!)
During our recent trip to Truckee and Lake Tahoe, we knew we wanted to try something completely different. We don’t often get up to the snow but since it was a special occasion, we booked a snowmobile tour through Coldstream Adventures! As snowmobiling newbies, we learned a ton! Here are some tips for snowmobiling in Truckee.

Research and choose to hire a reputable company
We did some research and choose one of the highest-rated companies in Truckee. We found the staff at Coldstream to be friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. They pulled sleds out of tree wells, uprighted sleds that had been flipped, and didn’t seem too bothered to do so. That being said, don’t be the person who acts like a lunatic on your sled.
Wear quality waterproof gear
The snow sprayed everywhere when we were speeding and winding through the trees. We wore snow boots, snow pants, and waterproof jackets underneath with wicking pants and socks to keep dry.
My feet were sweating at the end of the trip and the wicking socks kept them mostly dry. If I had worn cotton, they would have soaked right through.
Stay hydrated.
Don’t invest in a helmet. If you are using a reputable snowmobiling company, they should provide them to you. You should, however, invest in quality goggles. When we started it was foggy and the viability wasn’t great.
At the top of the mountain, the sun was shining so brightly, goggles were a must!
This is pretty important. We brought water to the staging area but not on the actual tour. By the time we ended, the tour was so thirsty. Next time I’ll bring some in a lightweight backpack now that I know how tiring snowmobile actually is.
Bring a hearty snack
Snowmobiling was surprisingly physical. Although I was a passenger, I found myself leaning forward and to the side. There was even a time when we had to get off and trek up a steep incline when the sleds couldn’t make the turn. By the time we got to the top of the mountain, we were tired and hungry. I had Kind bars in my pockets and we snacked while the other was taking turns driving!
I can now say that snowmobiling in Truckee was a beautiful and exhilarating experience. It was so serene at the top of the mountain and the view when the fog cleared was stunning. Truckee is a cute little town but the mountains above it showcase amazing views and fun trails.
